COUNTERTOP INSTALLATION
1. If installing over an existing countertop, all Formica finish
must be removed. If compressed wood surface is fairly smooth, tile may be applied
directly to it. If not, you may have to apply a sheet of 1/4"
underlayment
prior to applying tile.
2. If installing on new countertop, design the surface with at least
3/4"
plywood anchored to lower cabinets as you would a Formica
countertop.
3. Layout L-shaped back splash tile 1st, cutting and spacing to your
preference. To achieve this, cut off 4" of the back splash - 4" up
wall - 4" out from wall.
4. Using a 2-part industrial epoxy, apply to wood surface and back
of tile when installing.
5. Layout, cut and space whichever tile chosen so you come off
center of sink bowl and if a 90 degree; exists in counter - make sure you have
adequate size pieces and symmetrical on 45 degree; corner angle. When installing
the front bull nose tile, anchor a wood strip to underside - holding it out
at least 3/4" to hold tile until epoxy cures.
6. Repeat step '4'.
7. Vacuum all tile and joints prior to grouting. Using grout and a
rubber grout float, press grout into joints - make sure you fill
joint completely.
Let stand 15-20 minutes then wipe with damp sponge or cloth to
desired grout finish. Then go over tile face with clean damp cloth to remove any
grout from face. (Repeat as necessary.)
